For Want of a nail...
The basic understanding of people comes from a basic understanding of the universe. You can generalize and format people and say that we all want the sames things... Food, shelter, sex (reproduction) as phsycial needs. Love, hate, purpose for emotional need. However, to truly understand the controlled chaos that is the human psyche one must understand the small things that make up the very generalized quotients. Human beings are energy made from smaller versions of energy. We are 100% efficient chaos.

For a better explanation, look on this proverb:

For want of a nail the shoe was lost,
for want of a shoe the horse was lost,
for want of a horse the knight was lost,
for want of a knight the battle was lost,
for want of a battle the kingom was lost.
So it a kingdom was lost - all for want of a nail.

And I have just explained "the butterfly effect" portion of chaos theory.
Now keep in mind that his is a highly conditional example... meaning the end result is based on the presence or absence of the nail.Chaos theory is not as conditional, but the one idea within it "the butterfly effect" is highly based on chains of causality that are seen in hindsight. Once again... physics and human nature are there to reveal the mysteries of the universe.
